Before I became this kind of tech-nerd, I used to be the other kind of tech nerd, always loved the latest and most fancy phone, staying on top of what samsung vs apple beef is upto (back in iphone X era), and god I wanted an iphone so badly those days! I used to think iphone was greatest thing ever made and I even used to collect newspaper advert clippings of the iphone x haha. Then things happened, I became an open-source radical and now my laptop and phone purely runs on foss (typing proudly from vim).
Now I’m new to college, didn’t ask much from my parents after all the exams were over, so my parents with their infinite wisdom thought gifting me an iphone 17 would be a great idea (I genuinly didn’t want anything and told them I was trying to leave materialism and consumerism and they thought I was depressed), now I flat out refused after they had bought me the phone(this is a few months ago), now I am back in home from hostel for diwali vacations and seeing that beautiful computer just lying like a paperweight… I decided to give the iphone a chance.
I have heard how difficult it is to move whatsapp data but suprisingly move to ios app thingy on android already had a setting for whatsapp, so I waited 40 minutes patiently for all 12GB of my whatsapp data to get transffered to my new iphone. And it worked… yay. The new phone is so fancy. The AMOLED display is so cool compared to whatever panel I had before. Like the black is so good and every detail is so crisp. I am having trouble adjusting with ios at start like how you cant have command next to emoji button like in android. like just why… JUST WHY. whatever I’ll adjust to it. Some convinient things I had like a shell script to automatically login to my campus wifi or ping google on my click (using termux widget shortcut thing) were gone, it’s fine… ios is really nice at times too, the animations are fluid and sexy. I can simply tap and hold an image on twitter and send it to anyone over discord and instagram. wow! that’s where the fun ends…
WHY ARE THE IMAGES DISCOVERABLE ON MY GALLERY. I DONT WANT TOUHOU “FANART” DOWNLOADED FROM TWITTER NEXT TO MY FAMILY PHOTOS IN GALLERY. WHAT. WHY. WHATEVER. I will use Google Photos, No worries. WHY DOES EVERY BROWSER HAVE TO USE WEBKIT LIKE MAN. I miss privacy badger and ublock origin so much on firefox. LIKE JUST WHY. How much insecure is apple. The deadass chrome runs webkit too lmfao. ok fine… doable ig… no more free youtube premium ig… and of course no app sideloading either… oh and my actually genuine copies of mini metro, poly bridge, minecraft all goes down the drain. All is fine. UNTIL IT COMES TO WHATSAPP. So basically when I first downloaded whatsapp from app store, it did send me the otp to register on my new iphone and then the messages app said “delete otp after use”, im like yea, very useful feature, why not? AND THEN IT DELETED THE SMS IMMEDTAELY WITHOUT LETTING ME SEE THE OTP. ok ok fine. I will just resend the otp. I TRIED LIKE 6 TIMES AFTER THAT THE OTP NEVER CAME. So I reinstalled Whatsapp and the OTP finally came… yay… WAIT… ALL THE MESSSAGES FROM MOVE TO IOS THINGY WERE GONE IN AN INSTANT THE MOMENT I UNINSTALLED WHATSAPP ON MY IPHONE. why care about whatsapp messages so much? BECAUSE ITS GENUINLY EVERYTHING, I WONT GET INTO DETAIL BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY MY ENDSEMS IS IN 1 WEEK AND ALL THE MATERIALS ARE IN WHATSAPP GROUP CALLED “APPLIED CHEMISTRY FALLSEM 2026” I NEED THAT GROUP CHAT OR I AM FAILING. ALL THE DOCUMENTS GONE. I need them anyhow. So I try signing back into my android phone so I can archive them on my laptop. THE ENCRYPTED DATABASE WONT UNLOCK ANYMORE. LIKE HOW GOOGLE IS WITH THEIR STUFF. INSTEAD OF GIVING A VERBOSE LOG ABOUT WHAT COULD BE WRONG. IT SIMPLY TELLS ME TO REINSTALL WHATSAPP AND IT LOCKED MY ENCRYPTED MESSAGES ????? JUST WHY. I CAN’T SET MY RINGTONE TO MP3 SONG I HAVE TO DO SOME GARAGEBAND BULLSHIT. NO SIMPLY JUST WHY. I GET A FEW THINGS, DISABLING SIDELOADING AND ALL. BUT WHY TF WOULD YOU NOT WANT TO LET PEOPLE USE MP3 MUSIC AND SIMPLY IMPORT WHATSAPP DATA FROM GOOGLE DRIVE BACKUP. I don’t know what to do… either ways my endsem notes are gone behind some encrypted database. praying to saraswati mata that quantum computers that can crack rsa come before my endsems so i can unlock my whatsapp database.
